What is a VIN номер and why does it matter?

A VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) is a unique 17-character code assigned to every vehicle at manufacture. It acts as the car's passport – containing information about the manufacturer, model, production year, and serial number. Using the VIN you can obtain a complete Carfax vehicle history report for any US or Canadian car.

Where to find the VIN number:

  • On the dashboard – visible through the windshield on the driver's side
  • On the driver's door jamb sticker (B-pillar)
  • In the vehicle title and registration documents
  • In the auction listing – Copart, IAAI, Manheim, etc.

What does a Carfax докладът reveal?

Carfax is the world's leading vehicle history provider. Reports gather data from over 120,000 sources in the US and Canada – insurance companies, service centers, police agencies, DMV, and auction platforms.

Date, severity and type of damage from every accident

Odometer rollback – how to protect yourself?

Odometer rollback is one of the most common issues when importing vehicles from the USA. The American NHTSA estimates over 450,000 cars are sold annually with manipulated mileage in the US alone. When importing to Europe, the risk is even higher – buyers have no access to local databases.

The Carfax report compares mileage from hundreds of checkpoints – service records, insurance inspections, technical inspections, and title transfers. If the readings don't match, the report flags the discrepancy. This is the only reliable way to protect yourself when buying a remote vehicle.

⚠️ Even a discrepancy of 30,000 km can mean thousands of euros in additional repair costs. A Carfax report for €5 is the cheapest insurance when buying.

Can you check a VIN for free?

Yes – free VIN tools exist, but they show only basic information: make, model, year, and country of manufacture. They do NOT include accident history, odometer tampering, theft records, Salvage Title, or ownership history – exactly the data you need before buying.

Carfax vs AutoCheck – which report should you choose?

Both services provide history for US vehicles. Carfax has a broader database of service records and state agency reports. AutoCheck (by Experian) is stronger for auction vehicles and provides an AutoCheck Score. Our platform uses Carfax – the preferred choice for vehicles from Copart and IAAI.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to register to check a VIN?

How secure is the payment process?

Payments are processed through Stripe – a global leader in online payments. Your data is encrypted and never stored on our servers. We accept Visa, MasterCard, and Apple Pay.

How quickly do I receive the report after payment?

Reports are generated instantly after payment confirmation – typically under 2 minutes.

What happens if no data is available for my VIN?

How can I get additional help?

Contact us at [email protected] or call +359 876 855 205. Our team responds within the same business day.

What is the difference between Salvage Title, Rebuilt Title and Clean Title?

Clean Title – no records of total loss. Salvage Title – the insurer declared the vehicle a total loss (accident, flood, theft). Rebuilt Title – repaired after Salvage and passed inspection, but value remains lower. The Carfax report shows the complete history of all title status changes.

How many characters is a VIN and can it be wrong?

A VIN is always exactly 17 characters – it never contains I, O, or Q. If you have a shorter VIN, it was likely cut off during copying. Find it on the dashboard (visible through the windshield), the driver’s door jamb sticker, or in the auction listing.

Does Carfax cover European cars?

Carfax primarily covers vehicles with history in the US and Canada. Coverage for European vehicles is limited or unavailable – we recommend local history services in that case.

Can I check a car from Copart or IAAI before buying it?

Absolutely! We strongly recommend checking BEFORE purchase. Find the VIN in the Copart or IAAI listing, order a report for €5, and make an informed decision. We can also assist with the full import process.

How do I know from the report if the car had flood damage?

In the report, look for ‘Flood Damage’ or ‘Water Damage’ in the damage section and title history. Physical signs during inspection: corrosion under floor mats, mold smell, unusual electronic wear, and staining on upholstery.
